It Happened

After months of threatening, I've got a two year old.  He still didn't quite "get" the birthday thing and he didn't eat a lick of cake - not even the super sugary buttercream frosting (I did).  No, instead he was just happy to be in the company of some friends his size.  Then he got a juice box and promptly freaked the frig out.  I've never seen such a spazz out, well, except maybe the last time he had a juice box.  It wasn't even the HFCS variety!  Thankfully, my friend and other mom is as goofy about that stuff as I am.  It's all about healthy balance.  Vince just didn't want to balance anything of his with this cake I spent hours preparing, but whatever because I thought it was delicious and ate a whole load of it.  Balance.

He's also discovered the joys of a full tilt boogie style tantrum.  When he doesn't get his way, which is usually either going outside or playing with running water in the bathroom sink, he'll fling himself to the ground and wail like Soundgarden era Chris Cornell.  Giant crocodile tears pour forth from one eye, while the other is trained on me clearly reading, "Is she buying this?"

Mostly, what amazes me about him is how I'm discovering his personality in bits and pieces.  He's funny, he likes to be silly.  He's also very kind and randomly adminsters kisses to my hands, legs and whatever he can get to.  Today it was a toe.  Sometimes he just grabs me and gives me a big, squeezy hug that could melt a grinch heart.

He's lovely, he's goony, he's beautiful and he's our boy.  I'm so blessed.

  1. Oh i wish i could have been there to see this! It just doesn't seem right that we missed his birthday and that beautiful cake. Too bad you had to eat it all by your lonesome I so would have helped.
